I found this beautiful oyster shell while I was traveling in New England last week, and I knew I had to do something fun with it. While I would have loved to make it into a necklace, I didn’t have the right tools to do so. This is a super easy DIY project and would make the perfect gift!
I would also love to do this with other shells, think of how fun that would be! You could get so creative with this. This project fulfilled my mermaid dreams.
- Shell of your choice
- Gold Paint (Enamel or Gilding Paint)
To complete this project:
- Wash your shell. You may choose to bleach it, but I just washed mine off really well. Let it dry completely.
- Start by applying a thin coat of gold over the shell. Let it dry, and repeat this step until no part of the shell is showing.
- Let your paint dry completely (around 24 hours) and then you’re done!
Super easy, right?!
I opted to paint a coat of bright pink first before my gold, to accomplish a sort of ‘rose gold’ color. If you look closely, you can see parts of the pink showing 🙂 Make sure you do not use acrylic paint, since it won’t adhere to the shell. If you have the proper tools, you could also follow these steps and turn your shell into a necklace!
Doesn’t this project look just like this $195 bowl at Neiman Marcus?!
