DIY Lilly Binder Covers

September 5, 2015 / Art, DIY, Uncategorized

Hey Everyone!
I have received lots of questions about how to make your own Lilly Pulitzer Binder Covers so I wanted to explain how I made my own.

1) To begin, I googled “Lilly Pulitzer Print Wallpaper” and found the print that I wanted to use to make my binder covers. I also have a lot saved on my Pinterest “Pulitzer” board. For this tutorial, I used the print “Jellies Be Jammin”.
2) Next, I clicked on the image and I saved it as a JPG to my desktop.
3) I used the website Canva.com to make my binder covers. The “Poster” design works best for a binder cover.
4) When you click on the “Poster” design, this screen will open up. Click on “Upload your own images” and choose the Lilly Print that you saved. I clicked on it and just uploaded it straight from my desktop. Your image will pop up in the bottom left corner of the screen and you just need to click on the image for it to open on the template.
  5) Once your image is uploaded, Go to the “text” tab on the left side. Here you can pick and click  through different text layouts. Make sure you pick one that says “free” so that you won’t be charged.
6) I scrolled down a bit until I reached these layouts. I ended up picking the white ribbon one. Each one is customizable with colors and fonts though. Click on the text layout that you want and it will pop up on the poster screen.
7) One the text layout is on the screen, you can customize it by clicking through colors and different fonts. Personally, I like the font that comes with this design so I just change my colors. I have found that a white or off-white color works best for a background. Next, I typed in the name of my course. For the text color and border color, I like to choose a color that is found in the print to compliment it.
8) One everything is the way you want it, hit the download button at the top right and then hit “Image: for Web (JPG)”.
9) Next, hit save File and then drag it from your Downloads file to your desktop. Lastly, just print it out and you have your very own binder cover!

Gallery Wall Craft

August 25, 2015 / Art, DIY, Uncategorized

Hi everyone!
Today I’m sharing another DIY Lilly Pulitzer Post. One of my friends, Rachel, wanted to make a gallery wall for her dorm. She sent me a Pin that had the idea to use Kate Spade wrapping paper inside a frame for a gallery wall picture. I thought this was a great idea, but I lacked Kate Spade wrapping paper, so I used Lilly Pulitzer tissue paper. Any sort of wrapping paper or tissue paper will work for this DIY. I went to my local Lilly Signature Store, The Pink Crab, and asked for some extra tissue paper with my purchase. They gladly gave me 6 extra sheets! If you don’t have any Lilly Tissue Paper, you can use cute wrapping paper or any sort of fun print or paper you like. The thicker the paper the better though, so wrapping paper is probably best. For my frame, I bought a simple white frame from Ikea.
Steps:

1. Gather Supplies: Scissors, Frame, Wrapping/Tissue Paper
2. Put the frame on the Paper to measure and pick which part of the paper you would like to use.
3. Cut the paper out.
4. Secure the paper in the frame. (Mine was a picture frame so I just put the paper in and then secured the back into place)
5. Your frame is now done! You can hang it on a wall with 3M Strips or prop it on a desk if it is a picture frame.

If you try this, let me know! Another fun idea would be to print out Lilly Prints and put them inside! Feel free to show me your ideas!
I hope you enjoy!

Lilly Agenda Letter Craft

July 12, 2015 / DIY, Uncategorized

Hi Everyone!
I’m so happy that Lilly Agenda Season has arrived! If you have not picked one up yet, get yours at Lilly Pulitzer before they run out. I recently bought the Large Agenda in Pink Lemonade and I cannot wait to use it!
Recently on tumblr, I’ve seen a lot of people that are semi upset because they feel that they lose use of their months in the Lilly Agendas. Lilly Agendas from last year are scheduled from August 2014-December 2015, while the new ones are scheduled from August 2015-December 2016. People feel as if they are paying for months they don’t use, since they switch over to their new planner in August. I definitely agree that can be a problem for some, but I’m showing you how I make the most out of my old Lilly agendas. If you do not own any old Lilly agendas, you could always google Lilly Pulitzer Prints and print out a bunch of different ones to make crafts!
There are several crafts on Pinterest that work with agendas such as picture frames, canvases, and even covering a mirror! My favorite craft to make with my Lilly agendas are Lilly Letters. They are the perfect decor for rooms (especially dorms!) and also make for the perfect gifts!
I went to Michael’s to get my supplies. I bought a wooden “M” letter, a paint brush, modge podge, and then just used my old agenda pages for the craft!
A couple years ago, I made my initials for Lilly letters but looking back on them now, I feel that they are too busy. When re-doing this craft, I wanted to simplify the look of the wooden letter by using a common color scheme, as well as larger pieces of the agenda paper.
Listed below are the steps that I took to make my own Lilly letter. These steps would also work if you wanted to make a picture frame or even cover the side of a mirror!
After the steps, I included pictures of the process I took to make the Lilly letter, as well as a picture of my Lilly letters I made several years ago!
Steps:
1. Gather the supplies that I listed above (old agenda pages, scissors, ruler, modge podge, wooden letter, paint brush)
2. Cut out the Lilly Pages from your agenda that you want to use, then organize them by common color schemes. I organized mine into 4 different piles: blue, green, pink, and multicolored.
3. By looking at your piles, choose what colors you want to use. I love the look of pink and green together, so I chose them.
4. Sketch out the areas that you want to put the different patterns. I sketched out about 2 inch sections with a pencil.
5. Begin to cut out and lay out your pieces without modge podge. This way, you can get a feel for how the letter will look while also being able to move the pieces around.
6. Begin to Modge Podge the pieces down. I used my paint brush to paint Modge Podge on the back of every piece of paper, then I carefully pressed and smoothed the piece down so no bumps formed.
7. After all of the pieces are Modge Podged down and dry, you go around with a small pair of scissors and trim any extra paper that is hanging off of the side. Be very careful when doing this step though, as you don’t want to tear or rip the paper.
8. After all the edges are trimmed, put another coat of Modge Podge over the top of the letter to seal the pieces together. After it has dried, it is ready to be hung or displayed!

If you try this, let me know how it goes! I would love to see pictures or hear about other crafts that you have made with Lilly agendas!
